The Helmie Museum of Natural History is the only Museum of Natural History in Zakynthos.
It was inaugurated on August 10, 2000 by Panagiotis Helmis and is housed
in Agia Marina of Zakynthos, in a beautiful traditional building.
His collections include sections of Zakynthian flora and fauna.
With its exhibits, but certainly with the special room for environmental education,
the Museum is an information bank, a powerful learning tool
for the teacher and student, dealing with the natural environment
(geology, fauna, flora, etc.) of the Ionian islands.
In addition, it provides knowledge and opportunities to raise issues
protection of natural and cultural heritage in general as well
and on sustainable / sustainable development issues.
This second part of the goal is to “peak” young people.
However, it extends to the general public regardless of age:
The Museum informs, educates and sensitizes the public on issues
related to the natural and anthropogenic environment, with the expectation
that this action leads to improved attitudes and behavior towards the environment.
